Four stories from the Nordic region portray a natural world in transition, where the elements rage and where preparedness proves to be much more than sandbags and fire extinguishers.
Forest fires are spreading, sea levels are rising, storms are becoming increasingly violent, and landscapes are changing. Climate change is no longer something happening far away. It is here and now — also in the Nordic region. Nature is sending us clear signals. The question is whether we are listening.
FIRE WATER EARTH AIR takes us to four Nordic communities in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the Faroe Islands. The film explores what happens when crisis approaches and the most important resource turns out to be our neighbours: those living right next door and the shared community that connects us across the Nordic region.
Through the everyday lives of ordinary people, in dialogue with science, we experience how we can navigate crises when we choose to stand together. It is a hopeful story about how long-standing ties to nature — and to each other — can help us find new common answers in a changing world.
FIRE WATER EARTH AIR is nominated for the NORDIC:DOX competition at this year’s CPH:DOX.
The film has been produced with climate awareness, without air travel, and through an equal collaboration grounded in respect for Nordic voices and perspectives.
